Vinyl Floor Marking Tape – Limitations and Drawbacks

In the interests of preserving order and organization, warehouse and factory managers lay down strips of floor tape of varying lengths and arrangements, to create the sections, aisles, pathways and boundaries that workers observe as they go about their daily activities. The problem is, these managers often end up scrimping on the quality of the tape that they purchase, thinking that any vinyl floor marking tape that they buy will be suitable for the task. It is these same managers who lament their decision later on when the cheap vinyl tape that they buy ends up falling apart after just one pass by heavy machinery, twisting it into a torn or crumpled remnant of what it was supposed to be. cargo spc flooring

The harsh truth that these folks have to face is that sometimes, you have to pay for quality, when the situation demands it. Vinyl floor marking tape may indeed be a decent option for places where nobody actually expects to step on or run over the lines, or push containers and equipment that weigh hundreds of pounds over it. Otherwise, it’s an almost complete waste of money. Consider the following flaws that conventional vinyl floor tape possesses. First, the lesser grade of vinyl tape is produced in large sheets, which are only sliced down later on into the actual tape strips. This means that the adhesive layer extrudes all the way to edges of the tape, which causes the tape to be slightly raised. Consequently, anything that gets pushed over the tape is likely to catch and rip it. A tiny tear is all it takes to soon render the entire tape line non-viable. It is here that one discovers how flimsy cheap vinyl floor marking tape can actually be. With no reinforcement built into its material, pulling on vinyl tape is like pulling on a weak rubber band that eventually snaps. In the same way, the vinyl tape stretches and rips without that much effort. If you can pull something like that apart with your bare hands, just think of the damage that a forklift running over it can do.

Another problem with conventional vinyl tape is that the adhesive is little more than a sticky substance that just falls apart when you tear the tape away, just a like a sticker on a surface that leaves pieces behind if you don’t pull it off carefully. Vinyl tape leaves clumps of gummy residue on the floor, which are difficult to remove and need to be scraped off vigorously.

Lastly, the surface of vinyl tape might seem all glossy and smooth, but upon closer inspection, you will find that cheaper brands have bumpy textures that easily attract dirt and debris, making the lines that you lay down look filthy after just a few weeks of exposure to industrial activity. Moreover, if the lines are dirty, they become less visible, which negates their reason for being there in the first place.

The lesson to take away from these realizations is to be more discerning about the type of floor marking tape that you buy, because the conventional vinyl floor marking tape may not be sufficient for your facility’s requirements.
